行為藝術概念貫穿他的藝術創作，在繪製平面繪畫時，往往根據自身的直覺和潛意識，以兒童繪畫為靈感，運用豐富多彩和充滿躍動性的的筆觸帶出結構平衡的畫面，其創作過程即為一場場行為藝術的展現，並以日常生活為核心，轉換看似平凡的日用品（如越前和紙、織物、金屬、木頭、石膏、廢棄媒材等）為創作媒材，試圖消泯傳統藝術的束縛，持續探索藝術和日常的交織關係。

充滿活力且多產的堀尾貞治，能在短時間完成作品，如 1997 年開始的「1分打法」系列為每天早晨起床後創作 10 幅作品的計畫，每幅畫都在 1 分鐘內完成，因此，他甚至擁有一年舉辦百場活動的瘋狂經歷，而即使年過高齡仍活躍創作。

After studying Yōga (Western-style Japanese paintings), Sadaharu Horio joined the Gutai artist group, Gutai Art Association (1954-72) in 1966 and became a young representative artist of the second phase. The Gutai movement was known for its dictum of “don’t imitate others” and the approach of creating experimental works out of free will. After joining Gutai, Sadaharu Horio came under the tutelage of Saburo Murakami (1925-1996) and began to inject elements of performance art into the movement. After the dissolution of Gutai, Horio founded two participatory performing arts organizations, Bonkura! and KUKI.

The concept of performance art permeates his artistic creations. In his graphic paintings he tends to use children’s paintings as inspiration according to his own intuition and subconscious, and applies colorful and dynamic brushstrokes to bring out a balanced composition of images. The process of his artistic creations can be thought of as a form of performance art, leveraging everyday life as the core, transforming seemingly mundane everyday objects (such as Echizen paper, fabrics, metal, wood, plaster, discarded media, etc.) as the medium of creation, attempting to break free from the shackles of traditional art and continue to explore the intertwined relationship between art and the everyday.

The energetic and prolific Sadaharu Horio was able to complete his works in a short period of time. For example, in 1997 he started the “一分打法 (one-minute hitting method) ”, a project to create 10 paintings every morning after waking up, which required each painting to be completed within one minute. As a result, he has even had the extraordinary experience of organizing 100 shows each year and was still active in artistic creation well into his later years.
